Empty or Second Homes and Annexes

Each council within the ARP has different discount on empty and second homes please select your council below to see the discount rates.

Empty and Unfurnished Discount:

Empty and unfurnished properties will receive 100% discount for 1 month after which, full payment is due.

Empty and Uninhabitable Discount:

Empty and uninhabitable properties will receive 10% discount for 12 months after which, full payment is due.

Long Term Empty Homes: (a property that is empty more than 6 months but less than 2 years.)

These properties will be charged at 100%

With Effect from 1 April 2023 - Long Term Empty Premium: (a property that has been empty for more than 2 years but less than 5 years)

An added 100% will be charged to the property

With Effect from 1 April 2023 - Long Term Empty Premium: (a property that has been empty for more than 5 years)

An added 200% will be charged to the property (meaning a 300% charge)

With Effect from 1 April 2023 - Long Term Empty Premium: (a property that has been empty for more than 10 years)

An added 300% will be charged to the property (meaning a 400% charge)

Second Homes: (properties that are substantially furnished but unoccupied)

Second homes are not subject to a discount and will be charged at 100%

 

Reductions for Annexes:

  • The annexe is occupied by a dependant relative.
  • The annexe cannot be let or sold separately to the main property.
  • The Annexe is occupied by relatives of the person liable to pay the Council Tax at the main dwelling.
  • The Annexe is being used by a resident of the main dwelling as part of their sole/main residence.
